NIDEC small diaphragm pumps are divided into gas pumps and liquid pumps. Production in China began around 2010. With their superior performance, exceptionally long service life, and high cost-effectiveness, they quickly replaced some foreign diaphragm pump brands such as KNF and Thomas in certain applications. They are widely used in ultrasonic dental scalers, blood pressure monitors, humidifiers, microwave ovens, rice cookers, aroma diffusers, environmental monitoring equipment, smart toilets, anti-decubitus mattresses, vacuum fresh-keeping refrigerators, breast pumps, IVD (in-vitro diagnostic) equipment, and other industries.

The author has been engaged in the sales of brushless DC motors for nearly 20 years. During this period, I have provided samples of brushless DC motors to many other diaphragm pump manufacturers and have even produced small batches. However, it was ultimately difficult to achieve mass production. According to the "short board theory" of the barrel, without solving the rubber lifespan issue of the diaphragm pump, using a long-life brushless DC motor doesn't hold much practical significance.

Objectively speaking, NIDEC diaphragm pumps using brushed DC motors cannot fully leverage the superior performance and ultra-long service life of their diaphragm rubber. Therefore, their competitiveness is relatively weaker. Only in applications where the parts in contact with the medium need to meet food-grade standards, or where there are high requirements for flow stability, would users choose NIDEC's brushed diaphragm pumps.

The truly cost-effective and highly competitive product, with almost no rivals, is the NIDEC brushless DC diaphragm pump. In actual use, its service life far exceeds the 3000+ hours specified in the datasheet. Many users have measured it to be over 10,000 hours. Given NIDEC's large company size and extensive product portfolio, the diaphragm pump, with its relatively few models, has not become a focus among NIDEC's many product lines. Considering the actual sales of NIDEC's diaphragm pumps, they are already very widespread in China, but are rarely known outside of China (except Japan). This is indeed a great pity.

The following discusses the superior performance of NIDEC diaphragm pumps from the perspectives of design and actual test results:

  1. 【Low Pulsation】 NIDEC diaphragm pumps are designed with three cylinders, distributed 120 degrees apart per revolution. This ensures that during medium delivery, there is always simultaneous suction on one side and pressurization on the other, guaranteeing minimal flow pulsation.
  2. 【High Stability at Low Flow Rates】 The NIDEC diaphragm pump motor is designed for a full-speed operating speed above 5000 rpm. Due to precise design and manufacturing, the pump can generate vacuum suction and transfer liquid even at extremely low motor speeds. (To precisely control the motor speed, the brushless DC motor was replaced with a stepper motor). Speeds were set at 0.5 rpm, 1 rpm, 2 rpm, 3 rpm, 5 rpm, and 10 rpm, with extremely stable flow rates. (See curve below). Medium: Liquid.

3. 【Wide Speed Control Range of the Diaphragm Pump】 PWM speed control for the brushless DC motor, utilizing the Hall IC signal output from the motor itself for closed-loop speed control to prevent motor stall due to insufficient torque. This enables motor speed adjustment from 60 rpm to 5500 rpm.

4. 【Long Service Life】 The specified service life for NIDEC diaphragm pumps is over 3000 hours. Based on the author's comprehensive analysis of different usage conditions and scenarios, the average service life of NIDEC diaphragm gas pumps is about 5000 hours, and the average service life of NIDEC diaphragm liquid pumps is about 10,000 hours.

【NIDEC Diaphragm Pump Selection Overview】

The disadvantage of NIDEC diaphragm pumps lies in the limited number of models, offering a small selection range. If the parameters happen to match, it will undoubtedly be a highly cost-effective choice.

NIDEC gas pumps have three flow rates: 1.1 L/min and above; 1.8 L/min and above; 4.4 L/min and above.

For these three pump heads with different flow rates, brushed DC motors or brushless DC motors with different voltages can be selected.

NIDEC liquid pumps have only one model: 320 ml/min.

For this pump head, brushed DC motors or brushless DC motors with different voltages can be selected.

Rubber types: EPDM or FKM (Fluorocarbon Rubber).
